PROBLEMS AND DANGERS OF THE INTERNET: Special Focus on Cyber Gaming & Cyber Sex.
One of the most sweeping changes in the way we live today is our dependency on technological advancements in our daily lifestyle. The most common of which is the introduction of computers in almost every household and office.
There is not a day that passes where billions of people around the world make use of the internet for purposes of work, recreation or staying in touch with one another. Whether we are ready or happy to embrace this high dependency on technology, the onslaught of the tide of computer dependency will be here to stay – permanently!
Unfortunately, the age of information technology has also given rise to many new negative behavioural outcomes that challenge us to better understand and manage these new phenomena.
We need to fully understand the benefits and dangers of the age of information technology.
Specifically, this 3 hour workshop will focus on two areas of internet addictions; namely Cyber Gaming and Cyber Sex.
Some issues that will be covered in this workshop include:
1) Profile of our youths today
2) Key developmental transitions and their search for identity
3) What makes internet so addictive?
4) Some problems with the Internet
5) 2 specific areas of focus for this session will be:
a) Cyber Gaming Addiction
- Types of online games
- Understanding the psychology of the gamer & the design of games
- Profile types and susceptibility to gaming addiction
- Treatment approach and management of cyber gaming addiction
- Case-studies will be used for discussion
b) Cyber Sex Addiction
- Understanding and identifying online sex offenders, cyber predators and pedophiles
- Types and forms of the cyber predator
- The dangers of pornography
- The myths of pornography
- Impact & effects on pornography
- Strategies in preventing, treating and managing cyber sex addicts.
This workshop will also look at the Scriptural and Spiritual responses to the dangers of cyber addiction.
Come and learn how you can help those around you avoid the dangers and pitfalls of the IT age.

About the Speaker
Danny Ng is a psychologist in private practice. He is a consultant clinical psychologist at Raffles Hospital and clinical supervisor to several agencies and institutions. He also acts as a resource person to the media. He is also the founder of Family Connexion, a ministry whose focus lies in promoting a greater bonding and deepening of relationships between people, especially within the family. He speaks at many seminars, conferences and camps. He is involved in many community projects and serves on many committees and boards.
He is in love with his wife Julie and have two sons, Nathaniel and Nicholas.
