Currently, I’m reading this book called ‘Dialogue with God’ by Mark and Patti Virkler. It is an attempt to improve my prayer life and my communion with Him. Anyway, as I read the book today, God reminded me of one thing that I used to do but have since stopped.
A few years ago, I made a decision, whenever I woke in the morning, I would kneel and say a 30 second prayer to commit the rest of the day to God. Sounds easy enough right? Far from it. But anyway, I did it religiously for awhile. However, I am definitely not a morning person and waking up is one of the most difficult things for me. I would drag myself out of bed, kneel down and lay my head down on the bed and fall asleep often. Nonetheless, it generally helped me recognize that God is to be a part of my life and helped me focus on Him each day as I started work.
Well, this was a few years back and I cannot even remember when I stopped this practice. But God reminded me that we need to discipline ourselves and our minds to focus upon Him each day, so that we do not go through the day by our own strength. As we commit each day to God, I believe that we are reminded of His presence in our lives and we become more sensitive to His guidance and directions even as we rush from place to place.
I’m still not sure how I will do that now. Perhaps I will make it a point to say a 1 minute pray when I step into office or I will do the same as I did before. But what about you? How are you making an effort to set your mind on Christ each day?
